How do you teach in winter OUTSIDE? The SABA way teaches students how to survive in any situation so that includes a lot of time outside dealing in any and all elements that may come students way. Winter weather is just another aspect of the SABA Survival Academy.
Rule of Three’s: Students learn how important it is to remain calm in a stressful situation and we teach that by emphasizing the Rule of Three’s.
3 minutes: first and foremost breathing is a key component to life. As there is usually an abundance of air around this isn’t always the most difficult skill to master. However, learning the difference between remaining calm and freaking out is an important aspect of survival challenges.
3 hours: Brrrr! what to do? what to do? We spend the majority of our survival time in this category. Because of our four-hour class time, we do have worries when it comes to keeping students safe and healthy. We also want students to take responsibility for their own survival needs. So how do we do that?
3 days: Staying hydrated is a really important aspect of survival in both the winter and the summer. We use Kelly Kettles which allow us to make tea and hot cocoa as needed throughout our survival day.
3 Weeks: Food Glorious Food! The least important of the survival skills, but probably the most fun to attempt! Apologies as very little we eat is at all nutritious, but we do have fun making food on the fire and learning how to fend for ourselves!
