While all kinds of exciting Michigan weather was predicted at the start of the week, the STEM and Branch Spring Break Camp went off without a hitch. It was a great success of fun and learning for our 25 campers.
*Real-Life Video Game Monday — From the Minecraft Lego Challenge to Adopt Me animal habitat creations, campers got to explore their favorite video games through life in the forest. They explored the perimeter of our new space at Ensley Nature Preserve. The visit to Frog Bog was a huge success with wood frog egg masses spotted. Students created animal habitats for their favorite Adopt Me critters and played some Fortnight Capture the Flag.
*Wet and Wiild Tuesday — Ensley Nature Preserve is home to 10 different Vernal Pools, so campers threw on their boots and explored almost all of them. From macroinvertebrates like caddisfly larva and snails to amphibians like wood frogs, the campers got their feet wet in a wild Tuesday pool experience.
*Mission to Moon: Project Planet Earth Thursday — What is this planet under our feet all about? Students created their own planet Earth in modeling dough on Thursday by studying the different layers held together by Earth’s gravity. They also went joined teams and went on a scavenger hunt through the woods. Right as the rains hit, students gathered under the pavilion for a Lego Challenge of creating a specific Earth ecosystem.
